Part-time Spanish Teacher (primary age)
We are looking for a part-time Spanish Teacher (Primary Age) from September 2018.
Apply by Friday 6 July 2018
Full time salary £23,958 – 14.81% Pro Rata post (actual salary £3,549). 5 hours per week (4 x 45 min lessons, plus planning, prep, meeting and professional development time). We have a 36 week teaching year.
Cardiff Steiner School is looking for a part-time Spanish teacher to bring an imaginative and enlivened experience of Spanish language and culture to our children age 6 to 10.
For the first three years children are taught orally only, in ways that immerse the children in language and make language learning fun. Lessons are filled with age-appropriate, seasonal poetry, songs, tongue twisters and verses, often involving actions and finger games. As they progress children learn and act-out dramatised stories and short plays, and begin to take a more active part orally. This builds a foundation of experiences for reading and writing from the end of Class 3 (Year 4).
Cardiff Steiner School is committed to safeguarding children and young people, we expect all applicants to uphold this. All post holders are subject to a satisfactory enhanced Disclosure Barring Service check.
About you
You’ll be a committed, creative and resourceful teacher with a joy and enthusiasm for working with children, and the ability to relate to and inspire them. You’ll be proficient in the Spanish language (ideally a native speaker) and have a deep understanding of Spanish culture. You’ll have proven experience of teaching children (ideally in this age range), an interest in Steiner-Waldorf education, and be able to develop and deliver a Spanish language programme based on the principles and methods of the Steiner Waldorf curriculum.
We have an experienced team of qualified Steiner Teachers who can support you with this, as well as a supportive professional development programme of mentoring, observation and peer school visits. You’ll be a part of our pioneering and passionate team, at an exciting time in the growth and development of this diverse and confident, young school.
About us
Cardiff Steiner School is an independent Steiner Waldorf school for boys and girls aged 3 to 18/19. The School currently has pupils from age 3 to 15, with the school growing with them (up to age 18 by 2020).
We offer an inspiring and nurturing education based on the needs of the whole child – academic, physical, emotional and spiritual. Our distinctive, international curriculum integrates arts and academics into a rich, balanced education that ignites a lifelong passion for learning.
Founded in 1997, we opened our first classes in September 2012, built upon the firm foundations of 15 years as a successful Kindergarten. From strong roots we’ve quickly grown, and expanded to Upper School for age 14-18/19 in September 2017, offering the Certificate of Steiner Education – the first trans-national, secondary school qualification to be fully based on the Steiner curriculum. It is a valid, alternative secondary school qualification that allows students to progress to further/higher education free from the pressure of GCSE and A level curricula and examinations.
Our home is a large, light and beautiful Victorian school building in Llandaff North next to some of the loveliest outdoor space in the city.
